Llorean:
Do you remember the point where you were told that the only button that can be combined with other buttons is Play on the iRivers? Rec + L/R has been suggested before.

As for setting the Record button to it temporarily, that's a bad idea. It's always harder to change a button's purpose than to hold out on setting it until you've chosen a final one, because people get used to it.

The two handed assignment was chosen because it's really the only one that can work with it, from a hardware perspective.

The Record button will very likely end up just being the shortcut to the record screen. Which is a more common feature, and more valuable than A-B repeat on average.

Mikerman:
Actually I don't recall being told that only the play button can be combined with other buttons.  Thanks for the information/reminder.  A shame!

And I wouldn't suggest a temporary assignment for the REC button; I agree that users get used to uses.  But rather, formally assigning a short press for A-B and a long press for record (which I agree needs priority over A-B).  Why not take advantage of the REC short press possibility?   I just find the A-B quick screen A-B loop setting process cumbersome, not nearly as easy as using a short REC button press.  And I guess I don't see any conflict with that and the 2-handed approach for moving the A and B points--I was just trying to see if there's an easier and readily available way to initiate the A-B function and a short REC press, not being used for anything else, just seemed positive for that, and for ease-of-use, thereby not discouraging use.

Rincewind:
I don't like REC to be used for A-B, there are so many other functions that deserve a button (in my opinion) and A-B already has a working button definion. If you add REC and leave the other combo as well then the user can get confused wether these buttons have to be pressed in certain cases or first rec, then play - left etc.

but this is very Off-Topic. The issue this thread is about isn't fixed yet.

use the write config option, then down the bottom there is a special value currnet let to on (cant rememebr the name, but tis blood obvious, its the 2nd last one or so), change it to off and reload the cfg file. l/r are back to before

Mikerman:
Thanks for pointing to the option--
