That would be a feature I would love to see!

I'm pretty sure it's planned for inclusion in TagCache (it used to be a feature with the old database), the score system is listed in TagCache (Search by score), but currently there is no way to set the score, so when you search all the played files (score 1-10) all files logged in the played cache are listed. I'm sure a fully functional version will be included soon.

Not quite true, if you have the option General Settings>File View>Tag Cache>Gather Runtime Data (experimental) set to on, Rockbox calculates an autoscore based on the average length of time a track has been listened to.

So if you listened to a track right through (100%) then listened again, but skipped to the next track at 90% through, the track would have an autoscore of 95.

These stats are available through the ID3 file view options Best tracks and List played tracks.

Best tracks lists tracks that have been played twice or more and have an autoscore of greater than 60.
List played tracks lists all tracks ever played with autoscore and playcount displayed

I never understand why people want to rate music on their players. Why would you have music on your player that you've rated 0 or 1 star? Why not just delete it?

I really can't picture someone one day deciding that they want to listen to the crappiest album they have...

Well, what if your DAP has more than enough capacity to hold all your music? Also, the ratings are relative. Maybe a single star for me would be songs I like but don't need to listen to often. Or, I know people who flag songs with 1 star on their iPod if there's a problem with the song (bad encoding) or if they spot a tagging problem they want to fix.

I don't know if this is planned for tagcache, but from looking at the wps code, I saw two tags, %rr and %rp which have code that look like playcount and rating, but they don't work. I tried to find a way to insert the tagcache data there but without any success.

Is it planned for the future to display runtime data from tagcache in wps, or should I put a feature request in the wiki or flayspray?

They used to work with RuntimeDB, so theoretically they're in the "Too be implemented again" list for runtime data in TagCache. A flyspray reminder *may* not be a bad idea though. ;)

Often I hear about new bands from friends, that I become interested in, but often don't have the time to listen to the whole album.  So I load the album on my player to listen to later.  For me it's convenient to have a rating system on my player to be able to rate the never-before-heard music as I hear it, so I know what to do with it later.  But that's just me.   :)

For me, all new music goes into its own folder, and I move it to the more permanent area when I've decided if it cuts the mustard (Usually on the first listen)

I want this really bad so I'm really looking forward to this! And the greatest thing would be a rating exchange possible with MediaMonkey!
