Booting into original firmware...
« on: August 10, 2006, 09:04:24 PM »
I know this is likely a topic that's been discussed again and again, but I'm aware of HOW to do it, I just CAN'T do it. I hold select and menu to reboot the iPod. Then I hold the menu button down till it says "Loading original firmware." Yeah, I can do that. 1/12th of the time. Is there an easier way to get into the original firmware (I keep my videos in iTunes, music in Rockbox)? Or can anyone offer me a tip like when exactly I need to start holding menu?? Much appreciated!

Well, you can just turn it off by holding Play.
Then press and hold menu, turning it on, and continue holding it until it says "Loading Original Firmware"

It shouldn't have anything to do with the way you press the button, only that you press it.

It has a small amount to do with it because if you press it too late, or you trigger any scrolls while trying to hold it down, it can fail.

exactly, that's the point of setting it down and holding one finger steadily on it.

That was me that said it, accel  :D

Yes, the scrollwheel is very sensitive, as you probably know by now.  Thus, as soon as you press it, don't move it around.  Just keep your digit (or wtv you use to hold it down  :o) on it firmly.
