WPS image.bmp and text issue.
« on: August 10, 2006, 07:21:37 PM »
I have an issue with a new idea for my wps that I'm not sure how to explain, so I'll show you a screenshot:

Basically, I have a bmp I'd like to only be loaded when album art is displayed. Obviously, this is using a patch, but the actual question has nothing to do with the patch. When the album art is displayed, the bmp displays under it perfectly (as you can see above). When there is no album art, the bmp is not displayed, which is correct, but the "remains" of the image cut off part of the text. So I guess I can explain it.

I know rockbox doesn't clear the image after it's done using it, so I guess what I need is a way to actually clear the image when not displayed, or just have the album art window there all the time; the latter obviously not being an option. This is all I can think of to explain, so if you need any more information let me know. Also, you can download the beta for this here.

Thanks for the help!

It looks like you're also using the scrolling margins patch, and it's the margin that's keeping the text from displaying.

Indeed, however the margin is expanded when there is no album art.

Are you certain that it is expanded properly?

Regardless, these are bugs that may not even happen outside of these patches. Try making a WPS for an official build that hides or displays an image based on some sort of condition, and see if the hidden image still overwrites text, and come back and report the bug if it does. Otherwise, this is a bug you should be reporting to a patch author.

I am. However I agree it could be a patch problem. I'm working on testing an official build. I'll get back to you.

I had a very similar problem with my Lights wps.  I had a bugger of a time getting the text for the dB level to show up, even when the volume bar (which it slides with.  Cool effect) wasn't covering it.

The worst part is, I don't know the fix.  I know it works now, because I use it, but I don't know /why/ it works or what fixed it.  It was too far back.  However, download my patch in the wiki and check it out.  The answer is in there somewhere.

And mine works with the base build and with senab's build.  I don't know if it'd work with the Julius build.

Alright, I've gotten a official build of Rockbox running, and I've stripped my skin of all remnants of scrolling margins and album art. I've set the bmp to show when hold is switched on.

First, before I've engaged the hold switch the first time:

Second, while the hold switch is engaged:

Last, after hold switch is disengaged:

As you can see, it has nothing to do with the patches. Moving text blinks briefly over the bmp. So my question is either; is it possible to do what I'm wanting to do, have the bmp cleared when not called upon; or is what I'm trying to do just not possible with the current version of Rockbox?

Again, thanks for your help.

Well, it's clearly not possible with the current version ;)

But it sounds like there's a bug here. You might want to file a bug report on this one.

I actually feel honored. Thanks Llorean. I'll submit that report, and hopefully you guys will get to it. Take your time, I understand you're already spread thin on more important issues.

In the mean time I'll just go back to the last working version of Applebox.

Thanks,

FF

I had a deeper look at your WPS (inside iRiver h340 simulator build)

I found two unclosed conditional tags and that the whole WPS
is much to complicate to search for such an error.

So I tested it and stripped it down to the following:
Code: [Select]
%xl|b|underart.bmp|0|0|
%?ps<%xdb|Shuffle Off>
Here is some additional text
also here is text behind the bitmap
and here - you'll only see a part
%wd
I used shuffle on/off to switch it on or off (this is also availble in the simulator ;)
With this you're still able to reproduce the bug.

Could you please strip down your whole ZIP file to the stripped down WPS version and only the one bitmap and add it to your bugreport?

@FatherFork: Couldn't you just do something like iTunes with Album Art?
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/WpsIpod5g#Tunes_with_album_art_Japanese

where if u don't have album art, there's still an image saying No Album Art? Personally, I think that it would look perfectly fine.
