« on: August 08, 2006, 12:51:53 PM »
Okay, I love rockbox.

But.

Say I listening to a song (usually from folders) and I want to add it to a new playlist...is there a braindead way I can do this. Cannot figure it out which button to press/?

also..is there an automatic playlist function that remebers all the songs you listen too?

You can insert and queue songs in the current playlist or in any playlist in your playlist catalog through the File Context Menu, which you enter by holding the joystick button.  If you want more information, read the "Rockbox Interface" chapter of the Rockbox Manual.

But  I do not usually use playlists. I have folders I play songs out of...I want the songs I listen to (from all over the folders) to be created in a playlist.

Find the file you want to play next and do a long select on it, select playlist and insert/queue as you see fit. The manual is a really nice resource. Have a look through it.

Or look here: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/ManualFileMenu#Playlist

The "metaphysical trick" here is that Rockbox operates by playlists that it creates, even when you are not aware of it.  And so select and play the fourth song in a folder without creating a playlist, and you'll find that the entire folder is a playlist to play, with play starting with the fourth song.  You don't have to create the playlist, Rockbox does it.  And it doesn't get in the way--it's just something to be aware of, especially for when you are adding music to play next (e.g. if you weren't aware of this and added a song to a playlist created by Rockbox as outlined above and added the new song via "insert last," you would be wondering where the song is--it's at the very end of the playlist that Rockbox created; instead, use "insert next").
