installing problems (partition not found)

--- Quote ---I don't know if this is a related problem, but i seem to have wiped the music off the ipod (which i've done before with linux), but the weird thing is, it still shows the ipod music + playlists on the ipod bit of itunes!? Weird!

Not weird at all, just an effect of the decision made by Apple to rename all of your files and put them in a hidden directory. Check out the "Getting Started" chapter of the manual for information on how to resolve this using TagCache.
simongoldring:
Sorry, I don't think you understand me properly.
1) I can't see the itunes music on the apple firmware. it's fine on itunes and ipodlinux. I though TagCache was to be run so you could see itunes on rockbox.
2)I can't get the rockbox firmware working really at all. It just shows the flash screen and then has an error about a partition not being found and asks for USB. I presume the bootloader (Loader 2 from ipodlinux) is working fine as it comes up on hard reboot with the option of Apple OS (which works), ipodlinux (which works), and rockbox.
BTW, please just reply, don't edit my message unless needed. Thanks VERY much,
Simon
P.S
this is a 2GB nano from OSX
Llorean:
Did you read the part of InsallationFromOSX that tells you to convert your iPod to Fat32? Because it really sounds like you didn't...

I did not intend to modify your post. I think that I accidentally hit the "modify" button, which is right next to the "quote" button and ended up editing your post when I meant to reply. Sorry about that. That's what I get for posting without having enough coffee.

Hi !
I just lost two hours with the same issue, also with a 2gb nano. All content disappears from the menu : Music, pictures all together.
I followed the Linux guide and in despair the windows guide to see if this was a problem with the linux tools. I redownloaded all files.
The interesting point is that the problem appears as early as the apple firmware is loaded through rockbox or ipod linux bootloader. The problem appears even if rockbox files are not yet present. It seems to be that there is some incompatibility between the firmware and the bootloader.
I did a first installation last week and the problem did not exists at that time.
Hopes it helps...
Regards, Cyril
