Sleep Timer
« on: August 06, 2006, 11:51:47 PM »
It'd be nice to be able to fall asleep listening to some music and not have to recharge my iPod for the next morning. A sleep timer wouldn't be TOO hard to implement (in fact, it could probably be done with a patch) and it would save the battery life.
Configurable times, like 90m down to 15m or so, and of course the ability to turn it off in case you don't want the sleep timer on anymore. Also, a way to see the remaining time.

Well, if you feel it shouldn't be too hard, we look forward to a patch.

Ummm, it already has a sleep timer.  I use it almost every day.   ???   It is configurable from five minutes up to five hours.  Just go to Main Menu >> General Settings >> System >> Sleep Timer.  The timer stays activated until it runs down, or you shut the DAP off.  Try it out!

Don't you read the manual, Llorean?  ;)

Y'know, I was just half reading the post. As soon as I see the phrase "wouldn't be too hard" or anything like that, I tend to forget what I'm reading and go straight to the "Well, if it's not too hard for you, then you really should be the one doing it" response. :)

Sometimes people want to suggest or discuss ideas. Sometimes the person with the good idea isn't the best person to implement it. It is important to recognise that distinction.

I see no positive outcome in jumping on people and telling them to do it themselves - it just stifles the discussion.

Those that can, probably would anyway. Posting an idea on a forum, in this case regardless of whether it's already implemented or not, should not be seen as a contract nor a demand.

I only jump on them if/when they feel the need to point out that something "isn't too hard."

If it's beyond their ability to do, clearly it isn't "not too hard."

It would have been even nicer if the OP thanked mightybrick for pointing out that the facility exists already without getting exasperated (I'd have tended to fall back on the familiar RTFM ;) )
