Ok,
The usual story: bought the thing on the cheap used.
Found what seems to be the original charger, from the same flea market... it is 6vdc @ 600ma, brand is an "H" in two elipses... (is that the original?not that it matters). Fyi, a 6vdc unit produces 8.5vdc no load...
What is the spec on the original??
Do we want to be dropping an additional >3volts across that little regulator chip, by using a higher voltage wallwart??
Luckily it seems to run power into the proper polarity... DID THEY NOT PUT A (protection) DIODE IN SERIES WITH THE FRIGGIN DC IN??
Searched, found the schematics.
Running Archos 1.28, not Rockbox yet (that's for another thread).
Unit works ok.
Batts not charging for sure. Shows the stupid [- - -]o <---battery icon as charging.
Measure nil voltage on the batt terminals...
Regulator chip likely??
Ok, I opened the thing up took the sides off and all the metal ends. Had to fix some wierd kludge on one of the battery springs (looked factory, but had a spring wire in clearly the wrong place, compressing 50% of one battery spring) made the batts on one side intermittant. fixed, ok now. Had to also resolder the earphone to board pads... intermittant slightly, ok now.
Which leads me to the next question... what is the proper method of dissassembly for my unit? I did NOT see what to do when I had it open before.
What is the proper method of removing the disc drive? It did not seem like it wanted to slide out...?
Let's start with that...
