Using an alarm on the X5(l)
« on: August 02, 2006, 09:00:40 PM »
Ok so on the original Iaudio X5 firmware you can set an alarm and I was wondering if I would be able to use rockbox as an alarm as well. My current alarm isn't working and I like rockbox but need an alarm -_-. So I was wondering if I could install something or do anything so I wouldn't have to change back to the original firmware. If there isn't anything I can do it would be awesome if someone could make something for it by sunday night   ;D.

That idea has been discussed from time to time, but is not currently a Rockbox feature.

Rockbox has an alarm function, but it hasn't yet been ported to the X5.

I see I suggest that the creators of rockbox work on the Iaudio x5 features to make it more like the main firmware that it can be more preferable to a larger audince of people that prefer cowons design, I also say that there should be a theme that comes with the Iaudio x5 rockbox that is similar to the music player layout of the X5.

The creators work on this on our spare time and we do the things we think is fun and important according to us. If you feel something needs to be done, feel free to join in and make it happen.

Rockbox is a software of its own. It will never attempt to look or funciton like any of the original firmwares on the devices it works on.

Feel free to make a WPS/theme that looks exactly the way you want.

The X5 dual-bootloader enables you to use the OF alarm function.

What makes you think that more people prefer Cowon's design to the many, many options available in Rockbox?

Considering that Rockbox is both open source and themable, one could reasonably assume that if a great enough percentage of people preferred the Cowon design, both themes and possibly custom builds changing things to be more like it would be showing up.

Honestly though, if you prefer Cowon's design and/or features, why not just use Cowon's firmware. If you already prefer it, that means it must have more good things about it, so try to convince them to add in the fewer things that they're missing. ;)
