iPod totally froze
« on: August 01, 2006, 01:18:46 PM »
Hi All,

My iPod has totally frozen up. I had installed the latest Rockbox firmware for iPod photo. Initally everything went fine. I could navigate various menus, listen to the song etc. But today it simply froze up when I was trying to go browse the contents of my disk

It has totally frozen up, just can't get it back to reboot. I have checked rechecked to see if the hold button is on by mistake but it is not the case to be. There is no effect of connecting the pod to the pc, in fact pc is not recoginzing my ipod, neither does the USB tray icon comes up. I tried to reboot it by plugin AC wall adapter but still no signs of life.

It has been on for the last 1+ hour and there is also no signs of battery going down. I was thinking may be I should let the whole battery again and then replug it into the AC adapter.

I am really worried if my ipod is dead. Can someone please help me  ??? ???

Thanks
 :'( :'(

Thanks for the reply.

Initially I did that only, holding Menu and Select for almost 10 min !! but it didn't worked.
So I left it in the same state overnight. Eventually the battery drained out and I could restore it once again.

After that the first thing I did was to restore the original firmware as the rockbox firmware I am using is freezing. Can you suggest me a good stable rockbox firmware version for my pod.

Regards.

If Menu and Select doesn't work after 15 seconds or so, release and try again. It will always work, but sometimes if you wiggle your finger, it triggers a scroll and cancels.
I find it very hard to believe that you honestly held it like that for 10 minutes, and didn't just come back here for more help.

There is no stable Rockbox for iPod yet.

Many, many times I have had freezes like this during which one cannot elicit any response from the ipod including no effect to menu+select.  Running the battery down, which can take hours, is the only way out.  I have two rockbox ipods which both do this not infrequently thru many Rockbox versions, regular and experimental builds.

Since this can and DOES happen, at some point a method to penetrate this or better prevent this from being a possibility needs developing.
