I am still failing and need help with another issue. I have tried again and again to follow installations instructions. When I boot into native firmware, called Eros, and try to run firmware update I get the error, "update failed. not found update file".
Any more suggestions, please?

Is the update file on the root of the card, and named "update.upt"? The file being named something else is usually the culprit.

I think I did rename file correctly. I have attached a photo of cards contents, if attachment works. Does not in preview
If you don't use Macs much, you might not know that  fseventsd and .Spotlight-V100 files are are hidden files OS X puts on every drive.
One other clue that there  could be H2 hardware problem is that sometimes after booting into native Eros and sleeping screen then waking, screen show gray on white in mirror image, but only later, not initially, Ideas about that?
Thanks.

The _crash_ is still unaddressed at this time, but at least it will require active malfeasance to trigger.

The crash should now be fixed, with a nice friendly error message displayed instead.

Though as previously mentioned one will have to actively break their rockbox installation in order to trigger this.

Not sure about that, but as a wild guess, do you have Finder set to show file extensions? It may be that the file is actually called "update.upt.upt"

I don't understand what you mean by "Not sure about that, but as a wild guess, do you have Finder set to show file extensions", but guess that you don't use Mac much.
If, by "Finder set" you mean the display of the card contents in the Mac finder, I will attach a screen capture of the card shown in my finder, and we'll see (maybe shouldn't even try anything having to do with Rockbox on Mac. (Thought it could work, but don't know where I got that idea).

I am attaching 2 screen shots. The is a normal Mac "Finder set" (screenshot) which only shows the update file, "update, upt". The other is the card in the finder when I a press key combination to show invisible files it also shows .fseventsd and .Spotlight-V100, and .rockbox.

So guess Macs are not good for Rockbox?

It has nothing to do with using a Mac. I use a Mac every day. I am asking you to make sure that "show file extensions" is turned on.

I now have changed the finder prefs and made sure that "show file extensions" is turned on.
That does not change anything about how the microsd fies are displayed. What did you expect?

Ok, that answers my questions, thank you. I was trying to make sure the file was not named "update.upt.upt".

Thank you for your help.
Should try a different installation method, or just give up on this H2?

I apologize for being so terse before, but... Now that I've thought about it, you had it working before, right? It was just that the text was small? So I'm not sure what you're currently trying to achieve. If this is a v1.8 Hifi Walker H2, then I don't believe there are any newer original firmware versions which work on your device. Original firmware update files are only compatible within their same hardware revisions, if that makes sense.

Or are you still trying to get back to Rockbox working? If so, we can work on that. I'm pretty sure you just need the correct .rockbox folder on the root of the card. No update file needed in that case.

If you're trying to get the player back to stock, we can continue trying to get it to accept the update file. We may need to look more closely at which update file you're using.

I certainly wouldn't give up on it, but depending on what your goal is, we may need to look more closely at how to get there.

I did have it working but font was too small. Now however device says it can't boot Rockbock,  when I select Rockbox in boot options. I have, however, made changes in microsd card since. That's why I tried reinstalling update.

Ok. I'm just trying to understand what state your device is in. Here is a video showing what I believe your device looks like when you boot it up. Is this accurate, except that it says "Cannot Boot Rockbox" when you try to select rockbox?

Once you confirm this, we can go from there.
