I apologize, I made some feature request posts about this topic of GUI based sound effects used in RB
https://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,55330.0.htmlhttps://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,55331.0.htmlbut I decided to also give this specific item its own thread just in case the two posts mentioned are not considered.
Hope this is okay?
(This post was originally meant to be a question rather than a feature request, but I think I thought of the reason/answer to this question which I wll mention below)
Most actions have sound effects (CLICK or BEEP) linked to them.
I noticed that
Forward and
Back actions (button presses) within any menus / folders or file lists do not have a CLICK sound linked to them.
To me this sound effect is expected / feels like it should be there.
I think I realized the reason for this, which is because the CLICK sound effect is actually used for the indicator sound for the holding down of the LEFT/RIGHT buttons.
I was wondering if maybe the following suggestion would be considered?
-
Next / Previous (Forward / Back) = CLICK (as long as this sound effect is not annoying to other users?)
Currently the SELECT button when used in Menus / Lists does have the CLICK sound linked to this action, which basically the same action that the RIGHT ARROW is doing, going into a folder.
-
Hold down LEFT/RIGHT arrows = BEEP (gets replaced with the BEEP sound effect, as long as there are no scenarios where using this BEEP sound is overly annoying to the user?)
or if BEEP is not desired, maybe could be a double click sound made by repeating the CLICK sound twice?
The questions about sound effects being distracting/annoying to some users was another reason for the request posts I made about allowing user to choose which actions get sound effects or not. Although this might not be easy for developers to program this behavior.
Thank You
