Philips GoGear Vibe SA4VBE

(1/1)

Lianna:
Hey there, new here! :)

Today I found an old MP3 player in a drawer. It's a Philips GoGear Vibe with the model descriptor SA4VBE. The front page of Rockbox, while listing some other Philips GoGear models, does not mention the SA4VBE model.

However, I found this IRC log from 2013 that mentions a SA4VBE build:
https://www.rockbox.org/irc/log-20131207

Since the most recent release seems to have dropped support for some platforms, would I be correct in assuming that there once was a Rockbox build for SA4VBE and that it has simply been taken out of support?
If so, which version of Rockbox was the latest that still supported SA4VBE, and would anything prevent me from installing and using that on my device?

General rule of thumb -- if it's not mentioned, it's because there's no support for it.  (The https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/TargetStatus page has a lot more about various works-in-progress though )

That conversation was about folks trying to reverse-engineer the stock firmware image.

In a word... nope.

4.0 was notable in that it was the first time support for previously-stable devices had ever been removed.  In addition to those, some incomplete ports (that hadn't been worked on in well over a decade and in some cases, were never capable of being compiled) were also removed.

From what I can tell, that GoGear Vibe (indeed, the SoC family it is based on) never saw anything more than some preliminary experimentations.

Lianna:
Okay fair, thank you. I just seem to have misinterpreted the IRC conversation as a hint to some elusive old version, then.

Looking thru the log this is the relevant part

22:48   wodz   did you see my response? :-)
22:49   pamaury   yeah but I didn't understand it completely
22:49   pamaury   I can send you the archive if you want, so you can have a look, might be interesting
22:50   wodz   pamaury: Long story short: 2127 doesn't look like possible target for rockbox
22:50   pamaury   are you sure it's 2127 ?
22:50   wodz   looking at photos I am pretty sure
22:51   pamaury   ah he uploaded the photos ?

22:52   pamaury   indeed
22:53   pamaury   so it's horrible to program
22:54   wodz   and the mem is too limited - 88kB of program memory and something like this for data
22:55   saratoga   probably worth double checking that theres no additional DRAM on that board though
22:55   saratoga   but yeah, if its some weird DSP arch, its likely not worth the trouble
22:56   wodz   it is mips 4k so the arch is pretty sane
22:56   wodz   its just the mem model arcane
