But I have also been meaning to try out various allocations such as a first partition that is less than 128GiB and subsequent partition(s) larger than 128GiB.  I now hope/intend to try it sometime soon, and I will report back with how it goes.  But I would be happy if someone beat me to it...  ;-)

Happy to report that I've extended that last partition to ~220GB to fill the rest of the card, and it seems to work fine! Files will still read from it just fine (though I have nowhere near the ~400GB of music needed to properly test that largest partition. (That first partition is still less than 128GB by the way!)

I now have a 512GB iPod 6th gen that works fully with Rockbox! Thank you everyone for your help!

[This was in reply to sophiapack, but iPodVT could just as easily answer!]
So presumably you now are in the situation (as iPodVT worked out) where if you boot into the original firmware it gives you the 'use iTunes to restore' message, but doesn't corrupt anything; so, as long as you ignore that message, you can reboot into Rockbox again and it continues working?  And you see the second partition as a <HDD> pseudo-folder under Rockbox 'files'?

Does disk mode still work and does it let the computer see both partitions?  Didn't follow in the earlier thread to what extent that still worked.

And to answer this--yes, booting into the original firmware just displays the iTunes restore screen, with no apparent corruption. I run Linux (though I used Windows to install the bootloader) and am able to access all three main partitions I have. (I don't know why I'm still working with three if it's been shown I can have two...)

That's great - thanks very much for letting us know.

I plan to set up a 256GB 6th Gen with a medium/small 1st partition (prob ~32GiB) and then a 2nd partition that uses the rest of the available storage.  That would allow me to keep all of my music library (currently ~140GB) together in one partition.  Then I'll post something about how it goes.
