Installation / Removal > Rockbox Utility
RockBox 4.0 and 2nd Gen iPod (classic)
Alan Tochterman:
Good Morning:
I have an iPod 2nd Generation with a broken firewire cable, it charges but won't sync. I decided to use RockBox and a CF card. That way I did not have to use a donor iPod to load music. So far everything has been fine.
Yesterday I decided to update my iPod to the new RockBox 4.0. After installation, I got an error message, please see below.
I attempted to install Rockbox on a fully functioning 2nd generation, and received the same error code. I must assume that it is an incompatibility (or bug) with these particular units.
From the code, can someone please be able to decipher what seems to be the issue?
Alternatively, is there a way that I can go back to 3.15? I am not good with terminal processes.
I was able to find the proper file in zip format so I have it available to install.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

Bilgus:
were these both upgrades from 3.15 or clean installs with only apple fw on there?
Alan Tochterman:
First I did an upgrade on the original iPod using a USB card reader. That is when I got the error message.
Then I tried to remove Rockbox and do a clean install.
Both times the error message was the same.
I then took the other iPod (the one with a physical hard drive that could be detected by my computer, and did a clean install. It did not have RockBox previously on it. Again I got the same error message.
I then uninstalled RockBox to put the second iPod back to it's original state.
I then swapped drives, and my original iPod booted up in the Apple OS just fine. I wanted to make sure that there were no issues with the iPod itself, beyond the firewire connection.
I hope this helps.
Bilgus:
you should be able to unzip 3.15 to revert, It appears we have some issues with this target
Alan Tochterman:
First, thank you for both timely replies. I forgot to do that in the last post.
Secondly, I downloaded the file, placed it on the main directory, then unzipped it. I think that is what I was supposed to do.
But I just got the Apple logo with nothing else.
Rockbox appears as a hidden file. Should I delete it first, and just load the bootloader ? Or is there a different process?
Your help is appreciated
