Hifiman HM-801: Newer builds became unstable. Can I help?

<< < (8/8)

HungryDaze:
Hello! I've installed the new release (08bd5cdd3d-250410). Thank you very much for it! Everything works fine on an old card.

I've read in the release notes the following: "Rockbox is still limited to 16-bit audio playback!" Do I understand correctly that, despite the support for hi-res files, I hear 16-bit sound? Are there any plans to add 24-bit playback support?

Correct; Rockbox's internal audio path is 16-bit only, and there are no particular plans to change that.  Heck, there's barely even so much as a sketch as to what the new internal audio APIs would need to look like.

But it's largely a moot point; at the end of the day, if the hardware only supports 16-bit playback, that's all you'll ever get.

(The HM801 is one of the few devices we support that has 24-bit capable hardware; most are 16-bit only)

It's a pity, really. I like the sound of Rockbox more than that of the stock firmware. HiFiMan definitely cooked something up there soundwise. It would be great to realize the device's full potential.

HungryDaze:
By the way, Rockbox works fine on Hifiman HM-801 with this card:
microSDXC UHS-I U1 Sandisk Ultra 512 GB, 100 Mb/s, Class 10, SDSQUNR-512G-GN3MN.

So, I've encountered problems only with the most sophisticated ones.
