SPAZZ theme

Happy New Year everyone.

New theme is up on the themes page. SPAZZ - the crackhead brother of BONES.

For this theme I wanted a custom peak meter to be the feature. Unfortunately custom peak meter bars are pretty limited. I think the REDUX meters are the best implementation I have seen so far.

I love the clip, hold and release indicators on the default bars and it would be nice if one day we could customize them instead of just replacing the bars.

I decided to embrace the limitations and by accident I discovered that the size of the default peak meter is determined by its viewports font size. So I took advantage of this 'feature' and made it BIG. Another nice surprise was discovering the clip counter.

One of the biggest complaints I heard about BONES was the lack of battery indicator on the WPS. Thankfully SPAZZ has dual battery indicators and dual volume indicators.

Credit to rockboxdev_123 for the battery icon. Initially made for those whom wanted to add a battery level on BONES. As far as I know it was knocked up pretty quick as a fix, but I actually really like it for a battery icon and wanted to use it somewhere if I could.

Attached to this post is a config file for the peak meter. These are my personal settings that I like the look of the best. Rename the file to SPAZZ_Peak_Meter_Settings.cfg

I found the biggest effect on the behavior of the meter is the scale setting. Linear (%) seems to give it a bit more range across the viewport instead of being slammed full most of the time.

I will also add a post with the custom colour pallets from the examples on the themes page.

I hope everyone enjoys the new theme. Please post any comments/suggestions/thoughts here.

Cheers  :)

The theme and color schemes you've posted look very beautiful! :)

You can eliminate flashing of the UI viewport when changing screens, by preventing simultaneously displayed, overlapping viewports, i.e. by constraining the height of the time viewport to 37, height of the day to 26 and (possibly) x/y-coordinates of usb to 1,1, so that they don' conflict with the UI viewport. I think your other theme has a similar issue that's easily remedied

I noticed that the USB viewport didn't display anything for me (literally a white screen), because the current font didn't have the needed characters. You'll probably want to explicitly set a font for the viewport, or users may get very different experiences with your theme. If, in addition to that, you set a font in your themes config file, it will be used in plugins like PictureFlow or when displaying file tags in fullscreen, instead of whatever the user has set, possibly from a previous theme.

some other things that caught my eye:

- maybe on purpose: the "red" area of the volume bar seems to start at -6dB already on an iPod video

- Personally I would exchange the artist field for the track title, but that could just be me

- A stylistic choice to go without a UI viewport title, I assume, although it can be quite useful, e.g. to see what playlist you're in

- SBS doesn't seem to have a lock indicator (on purpose?)

- always a good idea to reset backdrop and filetype colors from a previous theme:
backdrop: -
filetype colours: -
