Odd interface stuff in current/recent dev builds
« on: November 22, 2024, 09:26:01 PM »
Today I updated a stock 30GB 5th Gen iPod Video to Rockbox dev build 253eb79db3-241122.  When I checked out the System->Rockbox Info screen I saw some unexpected odd info at the bottom.  The last three lines of info were

HD1: Not present
Yes Not present
Yes Not present

Please see the photo attached.

I have also observed in this dev build for the 5th Gen that the various Yes/No sub menus under the Settings menu are properly showing "No" and "Yes" options, whereas the same dev build running on a stock 120GB 6.5 Gen iPod Classic is showing "No" and "ouping" as options.  I had previously reported seeing "No" and "Mikmod Menu" as the options on an iFlash-modded 160GB 7th Gen iPod Classic running dev build c3d06d21df-241107 [see https://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,55041.0.html].

And now, looking at the System-Rockbox Info screen for that 120GB 6.5 Gen iPod Classic, I'm seeing the last three lines of info as

HD1: Not present
ouping Not present
ouping Not present

Please see attached photo.

Apparently this affects all multivolume targets.  I plan to track it down tonight, but it is a harmless display glitch.

Do you mean all multivolume-capable targets or all targets formatted with multivolumes?

Thanks.

The problem on the "rockbox info" screen affects all multivolume-capable targets (eg I see it on my xduoox3), but that wouldn't explain odd strings showing up in other contexts -- I thought that latter issue (on the ipod6g) was already resolved.

Okay, the garbage on the rockbox info screen should now be fixed.  It should end up in a dev build in about 10 minutes, or you can wait for the next daily build (ie 20241124).

Yes - thanks - I just now updated to 57cd8cd712-241124 and those three garbage lines at the bottom of the Rockbox Info screen are gone.

Any idea what's causing the display of "ouping" instead of "Yes" in the No/Yes menus?  Is there anything I can do to help?

Can you give me a specific menu to look at to see if this is recreatable on anything other than an ipod6g?

Other question -- does this still happen with a completely new install (ie pristine .rockbox directory) ?

Start Sleep Timer On Boot
  No
  ouping

I'll be back in a few minutes after trying a pristine install of the current dev build.

NO - It doesn't happen with a pristine current dev build!?!?!?

I went back to the iPod that I initially reported was showing "No" and "Mikmod" - it's an iFlash-modded 160GB 7th Gen iPod Classic that had been running dev build 914a56f34c-241029.  I had subsequently updated it to 3e95b13b7a-241109 and it was still displaying "Mikmod".  I just now updated to 1bf19eaaff-241124 and it changed from "Mikmod" to "ouping".  Then I installed a pristine version of 1bf19eaaff-241124 and it's now showing "No" and "Yes".

So I will progressively add in components of my personalized configs etc and see if I can discover what might be triggering the "ouping".

This will be _very_ helpful.   One strong possibility is the database and customized tagnavi.config.

I think I found it.  At some point in the past I had changed the language from english to english-us and had "lang: /.rockbox/langs/english-us.lng" in my config.cfg file.  When I cleared that setting from my .cfg file, "ouping" went back to "Yes".  BUT...., when I used the Settings mechanism within Rockbox to switch from english-us back to english, "ouping" became "and artist at the bottom".  I tried switching back and forth with the same settings on a 5th Gen iPod Video and there were no problems.

I have now reverted to my fully personalized installation of 1bf19eaaff-241124, with the language setting commented out of the .old, .new and current versions of my config.cfg files, and all the No/Yes menus look as they should.

I updated both a 4th Gen iPod Color and a 2nd Gen iPod mini to the current dev build, and then checked them for the language and No/Yes menu issue, and neither showed any problems.
