« on: July 27, 2006, 12:09:28 AM »
When i have my ipod in charging, the ipod restarts itself quite often....rockbox restarts and where it usually says "Submitting Tag Cache," it says "Cleared."

How can i stop it from doing this? It get's quite annoying....

Are you plugging in to a USB port, or to some sort of power adaptor?  If the latter, press and hold the menu button as you plug in to charge.

As for the "cleared" message, do you have the hold button on?  Restarting with the hold button on will clear Rockbox's settings and return them to the default.

Power adaptor, right, so I shall make use of the menu button.

and, yes...for the hold button being on.

If the hold button is *on*, how do you expect it to tell you're holding menu down?

We wouldn't have to ask such questions if we had enough information to help you.  Can you describe *exactly* what you are doing, including what kind of charger you are using and what it is plugged into (USB, power adapter, etc.)?  Is the hold button on when you insert the charger or not?

In your second post you actually said that the hold button is on, and that you shall try the menu button. You didn't clarify that you would be trying that without hold.

The other thing is that some people assume that the hold button is controlled by the software, in which case with hold on, one could still have holding menu allow you to insert USB, without having the menu-press do any thing else other than that (which would still fall safely within the bounds of 'hold' at least in my mind.) Of course, the iPod's hold is a hardware function to my understanding, but not everyone's aware of that limitation.

So while you can be offended if you'd like, none was meant as it's entirely reasonable for me to have assumed you had hold set, and it could've been entirely reasonable for you to think it was okay for hold to be set.

Is the dock connected to the computer?  When you connect Rockbox to your computer, it restarts to disk mode.  Try connecting directly to the wall (without the dock) and see what happens.

my ipod is connected to a socket at all times for charging...

with or without the dock - the ipod still reboots when plugged in and left alone.
