iPod 5th Gen "No Partition" / In a Boot Loop?
« on: September 13, 2024, 05:13:39 PM »
Hey y'all

after I restored the iPod on iTunes in Windows 10. I installed Rockbox 3.15(or at least thought I did) onto a 5th gen iPod classic with a 128 gig SSD. However, after the installation finished the device booted to a screen that says "No partition found insert USB to fix". Evidently having read through the forums it appears I need to first format that drive than restore it than install the daily 5th gen build and not the stable build.

However, before I can do any of that I need to fix the boot loop the device appears to be stuck in. When I plug it into my machine it is not recognized so I am at a loss on how to get in an mess with any partition / disk management software if it's just not showing up.

Every now and again I've gotten it to momentarily go into disc mode and a few times it actually appeared to load Rockbox and give me access to the base menu before quickly just resetting.

I'm at a bit of a loss on how to fix this.

Thoughts?

Do not use 3.15 on a modded Ipod. Use the latest build.

Also, what Ipod do you have? There's no 5th gen classic -- classic is 6th gen and later. If it's a 5th gen you can force disk mode by resetting it first by holding menu + select, then immediately play + select to force disk mode.
