Help with Installing Rockbox on a HifiWalker H2 with Stock Firmware 1.8
« on: September 05, 2024, 11:38:08 AM »
Hi!

Just got my H2 today and the stock firmware is 1.8. I've tried following the steps for the hosted port and manual installation. But whenever I try to update the firmware in the system settings, it says "Upgrade failed, not found upgrade file".

I followed the instructions here: https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/AIGOErosQK.

I'm doing it on a new SD card that's in the player, and I'm doing it while the DAP is connected to my PC.

I'm new to this stuff so if anyone who has done the installation recently could help me out, I'd be very grateful.

I think I ran into something similar recently, in my case the device wouldn't read the SD card at all. The problem is I can't remember what the solution was...

If you put a couple music files on there, does the stock firmware recognize it, and can you play it? That may point you to either SD card issues or something else.

As a shot in the dark, if the SD card you're using is exFAT, you could try reformatting it to FAT. I presume the stock firmware's updater can read exFAT since the main firmware can, but I don't know that for sure. I believe the on-device System Settings-->reset-->format tool will change it to FAT for you. Of course, you'll need to make a backup of everything on the card before formatting it, and then move it back over afterwards.

Another shot-in-the-dark thing to try... you could try using an unmodified update file first and see if that has success or the same issue.

...the most likely explanation is that you didn't rename the update file correctly.

Unfortunately problems with the factory recovery/update mode are not something we have the ability to meaningfully debug.

Okay, so the issue was me incorrectly renaming the update file. I took the instructions quite literally and renamed it update.upt which I'm guessing made it so it was actually named update.upt.upt which probably explains why the player wouldn't recognize it. Anyways, it's been fixed and I'm gonna enjoy this firmware.

Thanks guys!

Know this is old, but so am I, LOL, I'll ask anyway. I also interpreted the instructions literally and failed. What I SHOULD rename the file, literally, I mean, exactly? Anyone?

The file name should be update.upt

Guess I'd failed to post again, as I'd intended.
Note the picture shows not only ".Rockbox  and update.up" but also 2 hidden files. If you have ever used a Mac, you should recognize those file names. Apple Support, and other sources explain,"fseventsd and .Spotlight-V100 files are are hidden files OS X puts on every drive".  Of course that includes SD cards, hence every.

This has nothing to do with being on a Mac. You have ".rockbox 2" in this screenshot. If this folder contains the real rockbox installation, it must be named ".rockbox".
