No bootloader backup after native installation Hifi Walker H2
dconrad:
I'm fairly certain you could reinstall the hosted image and it will overwrite the native port bootloader... Especially since you are overwriting it with the same version which is already on it. I have an old player at home I can try it on when I get home today to make sure if you would like. You would just go into the Hiby Player and do an update from that.
I believe the wiki says what it says because switching versions could cause a problem, as well as just out of an abundance of caution.
Zweeni:
Thank you very much for your efforts.
I am so grateful.
Unfortunately, installing the update via Hiby Player didn't work either.
But I haven't tried the hosted bot loader via Jztool yet.
RockboxUtillity didn't give an error message but didn't work either.
dconrad:
I have learned some interesting things today - It seems that you are correct - updating the original firmware does not work with the (current) native bootloader installed. Even if it did, the update image does not overwrite the bootloader. The binaries to do so are located in the update file, but they are not marked to be installed.
However! The bootloader binaries we need are indeed located in the update file. I tried to extract the part we need and create a "synthetic" bootloader backup file which can be Restored via our native bootloader. I tried this with my own v1.3 H2 and had success. If this does not work, we can try using an unmodified binary file, but that is larger so it is good to try this first.
So it is up to you if you want to try this or not. I had success testing with my v1.3 device. In the worst case scenario, you will just need to re-install the native bootloader as you did before using jztool. Hopefully in that case we can have a version that fixes the LCD issue anyway.
If you wish to instead still find someone with a "real" backup from a v1.8 device, I understand and will not be offended at all :)
So if you're willing to try this, do the following:
* Download this backup file
* Place it on the root of your SD card
* Rename the file to erosqnative-boot.bin
* Hold VolUp+Power to access the bootloader menu
* Select "Restore"
* Reboot the device
* Now you should be at the Hosted Rockbox bootloader screen. You can place a Hosted Rockbox installation on your SD card from here. You could also use Aigo Player to install a stock (non-rockbox) v1.8 firmware file if you wish.

Hello @dconrad,
I can report success, everything is back to how it should be.
The synthetic bootloader works perfectly.
Hiby Player says it's version 1.8.
What can I say, fantastic work and very quick help.
I'm thrilled.
Can I help in any way?
GrĂ¼sse Sven
dconrad:
Glad it worked! We know now that this is a possibility, which is great ;D
