Regarding Rockbox for the iPod Nano 5th Gen

(1/1)

misterrredstone:
I am fully aware there is no port, and that's a real shame since it seems to be likely possible, at least to me, nowadays, and I'd actually love to daily drive the only iPod nano with a speaker, microphone, and camera built-in, but with only 8GB, Opus is probably the best option to go with, but of course iPods NEVER supported that, and I am hoping that Rockbox will or does. The problem is I can't seem to find ANY custom firmware for the iPod Nano 5th generation, let alone one that can play Opus audio, and that just doesn't seem... right.

Here is where it is described to be more possible than before: https://freemyipod.org/wiki/Main_Page
I am not an embedded developer, but I am fairly certain a few of YOU are, so that's why I'm posting here, to make everyone aware that this is a thing, and hopefully SOMEONE will do something with it. I also would hope that or those someones would also get the camera, microphone, and speaker functional within the port too, maybe do cool things like turning up the bitrate a bit for the camera recording, as that's probably the biggest issue with it in its default form, twice the bitrate, and it would look reasonable for what it is.

I know this is probably a big ask, but I see people talking about it as far back as 2011, and their argument was that it had "been 3 YEARS PEOPLE!!"... well now it's been 15 years. Let's do this thing!

Code execution on the Nano devices is well known, so you don't need to tell people about it.

As for a new port, those are done by device owners who want to work on them.  See here:  https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/NewPort.html
