Please don't shout.

Have you tried resetting the player by holding Menu+Select?

My Nano have been doing the same after a few days of using. Actually it did turn on, but a screen with something like "apple.com/support" appeared.

When connected to the PC, first it was just restarting itself with changing screens of "Please don't disconnect" and "OK to disconnect". But it never connected.

I tried it a little later when it was discharged. Nano was still restarting + beeping every restart ...and I think it even showed a screen with battery; however it didn't connect and it turned itself off afterwards.

Then I followed the discussion "ipod won't boot" (http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=5316.0) Holding of Menu + Select? It didn't do much. It just stopped repeating restarts when I tried it. So I left iPod connected to the PC and... voila! After some time it connected to the computer. I haven't disconnected it yet, but I'll try!

Does anybody know what is the cause of all this "bricking"? May I have unplugged it without disconnecting it? Because i can't think of anything else.

Little update.

After I disconnected my nano yesterday, It hasn't been able to boot. Again only the screen with /!\ and "apple.com/support/ipod" So far it doesn't want to connect to the computer either, so I can't use the iPod updater or anything else. Could the bootlader be the troublemaker? I updated rockbox fw from 06/16 to 07/26.

Rudegar I doubt your iPod is Bricked. Tell us your results when you finally manage to make it work.

I will mention this again, there are no officially bricked units from Rockbox. So I doubt that yours will be first. So be calm.

I will change the topic's subject once you post back, this title is misleading and can make people scared.

Hi. I had the same problem.

I suspected that it had something to do with letting rockbox drain the Ipod's battery totally.

And so, I plucked it in where it decided to restart again and again.
Then I rebooted it into diskmode thinking that it would be fine and take power with no problem. But after abit, it started to reboot repeatedly again.
Therefore while it booted up, I forced it to restart and therefore broke the cycle.

I solved it like that. Sounds pretty unorthodox but it might work for you.

I've read the discussion, I believe I have a different problem. Here is what I experience:

1) it was restarting again and again. firstly only with apple logo and support screen /!\. Later the disk mode turned on as well ("Do not disconnect") but it kept restarting and beeping every restart with a backlit flashing. This lasted until i reset it using menu+centre.

2) then it restarted into the disk mode (with with "OK to disconnect" and "low battery" screens switching) after a while it showed the battery with a flash picture. (the battery level is just the lowest.) However after cca 5 minutes it just restarted by itself.

3) The apple logo showed up and the player booted into the disk mode - it showed "Do not disconnect" but suddenly after it changed to "OK to disconnect". The battery indicator was showing the battery was completely dead. The Nano stayed in this state for about 20 minutes after which it went back to No. 2)

Why doesn't it connect to the computer? Is it because of the discharged battery? Would it help me if I'd get an outlet charger? Thx.

I suggest all of you, that encounter the so-called "brick" phenomenon, take some time at  #rockbox IRC channel and discuss the probelm in detail.

Then after you make sure that you didn't brake it, or it wasn't a mere hardware failure post back to further discuss it or finally call it a "brick".

Until then please don't scare away the new users.... (topic title edited)

I am sorry, I don't want to scare anybody. I don't think it would be bricked.  :) However I do not know how to get the iPod connected or boot into FW.

Does anybody know if I could use the charger if I'd have it? Thx.

Have you tried using a different cable or a different USB port?

I've tried it on 2 PC's. I have only one cable. I think I will try to borrow the adapter from some of my friends when I'll see them.

Hey all, my iPod nano is not bricked! After half a year a use it again. Of course with Rockbox. The whole problem of mine was a bad usb cable!

After almost half a year when it was laying at home not reacting on any charger, active USB hub or computer port I finally brought it to service. To my surprise they claimed that they simply flashed it. After that it did not work for me either so I listening to all those shop assistant that iPod might just need a power boost and I also bought the charger... It did not help so I tried to get it working in an Apple store where it worked. After that all I finally tried to use the other, new cable that came with charger and... Voila!

Oh, those miserable unstandardized Apple connectors!
