Rockbox working on iPod 6: delete original content

Dropbox is installed, and it's working very well. All the original iPod content is still on the device and I need to free the space. When it's attached to my Win 10 PC, I can see \.rockbox and \general_storage, as well as \iPod_Control. Is it safe and/or good practice to delete \iPod_Control, or would I be better advised to reformat the iPod's disk then reinstall Dropbox, and why?
