Voice Recording Samsung YP-R1

Is there any way to make voice recording work on the YP-R1? Or is that a stock firmware thing only currently?

I used a YP-R1 as a dedicated player for audio books for years. Once Rockboxed and with a Theme that I did to just include what I needed for audio books it was excellent. Sadly the Rockbox port was never really finished and although I tried to do some work myself I doubt that the Recording function could be activated even if anyone was prepared to work on it.

There was some WIP by Lorenzo but it's uncommitted stuff. I don't remember trying the patch myself back to the time as I was away when he worked on it but reading through my discussion with him on the IRC, it looks like it was not usable as is (at least for the keymapping).

Sadly Lorenzo and I moved away from DAPs and Rockbox, leaving the YP-R1 port quite unfinished.

I was working on the 240x400 touch variant of my "lebellium Samsung-like" theme series in 2013-2014 (10 years ago!) but actually never finished it so I didn't upload it to the theme website. Looks like I tried to resume my work briefly in 2020 but gave up. I should have a look again, maybe just upload the version "as is" if I'm unable to finish it

It's cool to hear that work was done for recording. I think I remember Lorenzo, they were nice. What is missing from that patch that needs to be done?

The only other player I have right now is a Sony NWZ-E585, not sure what has to be done on that one to make it be able to voice record.

I also agree Thew has a good looking theme
