mks5lboot and single-boot mode for Rockbox on iPod 6G Classic

(1/1)

iPodVT:
I'm trying/hoping to convert my iPod 6th Gen Classic to single-boot mode for Rockbox.  If I download mks5lboot64.exe onto my Windows 10 laptop will that include all of the necessary libs/tools/pieces or do I still need to also install libusb and/or anything else?

I have already tried using Homebrew and then MacPorts to install all of the necessary pieces/tools to do it on my Mac but I couldn't seem to get to the point where macOS Terminal would recognize any mks5lboot commands.  I've read a lot of info in this forum and elsewhere on the web (including the mks5lboot README) but I can't seem to get it all straight and working.

Thanks in advance for any info/pointers/etc that you can share with me.

Hi were you able to figure it out? I've been dealing with constant reinstalls for days trying to figure this out

I have never been able to get single-boot mode to work on an ipod6g.

The "corruption" that occurs on an ipod6g when booting into the OFW is in reality only a loss of the partition table. If you backup your partition table you can restore it after it is corrupted by the Apple firmware and you will find that all of your data is still intact. Or you can just use fdisk to re-create it.

Ah ok I see thanks. I'm very new, how would I backup/restore a partition? Using a partition manager I assume but I'm not sure if the AOMEI CE I used on my windows machine is capable. Regardless, I have been tentatively managing fine by making two >128 partitions in the manner of this topic post : https://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,55027.0.html
However, one of my theme's WPS (digitalredux) on daily and development builds is slightly broken, I can live with it I think.

When I found that no corruption was seeming to happen after employing the two methods I described in https://forums.rockbox.org/index.php/topic,55027.0.html, I abandoned trying to use mks5lboot to achieve a single-boot installation.  More recently I revisited mks5lboot in order to try to fix a 160GB 7th Gen Classic that is stuck in DFU mode.  I have had some success in getting mks5lboot32.exe in Windows to communicate with the iPod, but so far I have been unable to break the iPod out of its DFU funk.
