Issues with 19-Nimbus font

(1/1)

zugu:
Hello,

I'm using the PodBlue theme on an iPod Classic. This theme is using the 19-Nimbus font from the .rockbox folder.
Trouble is, some Romanian characters are not correctly displayed (ș, ț, î, â, ă and their capital variants) and I don't know if the font is missing glyphs for those characters or if the iPod has trouble rendering them.
I also happen to like this font a lot. What can I do to have these characters correctly displayed?

This page will be informative:   https://translate.rockbox.org/whichfont.php -- According to this, the font only covers 93% of the characters in the (now very) incomplete Romanian translation.  [1]

The Nimbus-19 font hasn't seen an update since June 2010.  I have no idea what its original source was, or if that source has since added the glyphs you care about.

As for what it takes to improve character coverage... one must appropriately modify the font's BDF file (using Fontforge or whatever) to add the missing glyphs.  (See https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/CreateFonts )

[1] According to https://translate.rockbox.org  Romanian is only ~57% complete, and hasn't been updated since Feburary 2015.   Any update would be quite welcomed.
