iPod Classic 6th Gen - Installation Failed - No Partition Found

Hi, i'm modding an iPod Classic 6th gen.
I added a 128gb SSD from AliExpress and with the stock OS everything is working fine. I was able to restore the iPod and use it.

I wanted to install rockbox too, but I was not able to get it to boot.
The bootloader is installed and I'm able to launch the stock os using the lock slide, but if I try rockbox I get the following message:
"No partition found
Entering USB mode"

I tried reinstalling both the stock os and rockbox multiple times, but with no results.
I'm using MacOS.

Maybe something to do with the ipod not being formatted FAT32?  When you restore an ipod with a Mac, does it end up formatted in a way RB can understand?

I tried to format the iPod in fat32 using disk utility, but rockbox still wont boot. The iPod is recognized by the rockbox utility and the installation process shows no error.
