Crossfading failing on _some_ tracks
« on: July 17, 2025, 05:56:26 AM »
Hello there,

The crossfading function of rockbox is amazing, and i rely on it heavily! <3

I noted that some tracks repeatedly fail at cross-fading though. It's true with "entering" crossfading, and "exiting" crossfading as well.

Made very rough tests:
-  when track X seems concerned (because "entering" crossfade fails), ensure that its "exiting" crossfading fails as well.
- then move on to track Y (which "entering" crossfade failed, due to track X), and ensure that it's "exiting" crossfading is working well.
- move on to track X. "entering" crossfading works fine. move on to track Y to ensure that it's "entering" crossfading works as well, so track Y wasn't at fault here.
- go back to track X -> "entering" crossfading fails agan
=> so track X is the culprit somehow...

So far my solution has been to remove entirely those identified tracks from my automated, cross-faded playlists... But i'd like to know:

- is there a way to detect those concerned tracks automatically?
- is there a way to "fix" them so crossfading would start working on them again?

Thanks!

If Settings -> Playback Settings -> Frequency is set to Auto (default value), tracks with different sample rates won’t crossfade. This is a limitation of how automatic frequency switching is implemented. Compare the sample rates of the problematic track pairs - mismatched frequencies might be the reason for your issue.

Amazing! thank you so much!

Will test extensively (48KHz should work fine...?) and it may be the case that you saved my lazy DJ-set! ;)

Thanks!! <3 <3 <3
