noisy hard drive
« on: July 25, 2006, 08:25:39 AM »
Sorry this isn't a rockbox specific post - but the most informed people seem to be on this board.

My beloved H140 has developed a very noisy hard drive. The disc spin is very noticeable indeed - like a kind of quiet dentist drill.

I am worried this means it is damaged / about to die. Am I right? Anything I could do?

Not a good sign for süre. I don't think there's much you can do. Make a backup of your music / data and be prepared to buy a 40 or even 60 GB hard disk when your hard disk finally dies. This would make a nice H 160 out of your H 140. If your hard disk works for a little longer you might even be able to get a 80 GB hard disk for it. Hard disk failure is definitely not a reason to throw your H 140 away . At least throw it my way if you do.  ;)
