Device is not in DFU mode

Hi, every time I try and install I get to the DFU part and get the error message that the device is not in DFU mode the iPod then struggles to reset and takes quite a while. no idea what I am doing wrong! Ipod Classic 7th Gen Mac os. Thank you!
