SurFans F20 Firmware - Mine says 3.0
« on: January 25, 2024, 07:46:40 PM »
I just bought a SurFans F20 Firmware and in the about section it says the firmware is 3.0
Any suggestions about what I should do?
Should I downgrade and use the firmware for 2.7 on this website?
Any help would be appreciated

No one answered me here but this is what I found out:
I went ahead and downgraded from Firmware 3.0 to 2.7 with no problems.
The Rockbox OS is much better than the one on the device.

Also I just want to add that I found the install process confusing so I wanted to write out how I did it:
You'll need to copy 3 files to the SD root of the device
Bootloader file bootloader.erosq which I got from https://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/surfans/f20.zip
F20-v27-patched.upt  from https://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/surfans/F20-v27-patched.upt   and then rename F20-v27-patched.upt to update.upt
And from the daily build AT https://www.rockbox.org/daily.shtml
Goto AIGO EROS Q / K and look for Rockbox  and click on it
https://download.rockbox.org/daily/aigoerosq/rockbox-aigoerosq-20240203.zip
I unzipped and copied folder .rockbox to the root of the SD card.

Start with this page
https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/AIGOErosQK

Goto to the table where the above says "Here you can download the current bootloader builds, along with "binary patches" that can be easily applied to stock firmware update images using the 'bspatch' utility"
And click on the zip under
Surfans F20    2.2 / 2.5 / 2.7
https://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/surfans/f20.zip
After unzipping, copy the file bootloader.erosq   to the SD card of your Sufans device on the root level

Scroll down to where it says "For convenience, here are pre-patched images: "
and click on Surfans F20    2.7
https://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/surfans/F20-v27-patched.upt
and rename F20-v27-patched.upt to update.upt   and put that file on the root of the SD card on the device
Then you'll need to add the Daily build to the device
Goto
https://www.rockbox.org/daily.shtml
Goto AIGO EROS Q / K and look for Rockbox  and click on it
https://download.rockbox.org/daily/aigoerosq/rockbox-aigoerosq-20240203.zip
I unzipped and copied folder .rockbox to the root of the SD card.
Then I went into the device, browsed to firmware updated and selected update.upt
It successfully saw the firmware (which is the modified firmware which opens up the port.
When rebooting the image is different and now I can see Rockbox on it!
Hope this helps someone.
