Shortcut to open bookmark
« on: July 15, 2023, 02:19:08 AM »
I want to create a shortcut to open a bookmark. I have this in shortcuts.txt:

[shortcut]
type: file
data: /Rehearsal.bmark
name: Rehearsal
icon: -1
talkclip:

It opens the bookmark file instead of "running" it.  Is there a way to have a shortcut "run" a bookmark?

Not supported in official rockbox. This feature is present in poretsky's build: https://poretsky.github.io/rockbox/

Commit that adds this functionality: https://github.com/poretsky/rockbox/commit/2e6366586560e6a2876807477483f199a7b14df3

It looks like the commit changes the shortcut type from browse to file. I did that manually by editing the shortcuts.txt file. It doesn't change what happens when a bmark file is opened?

In case you aren't aware of this, or haven't already figured it out: You need to reboot the player for Rockbox to pick up your changes to the file.

After a reboot it still opens the bookmark file instead of running it.

Indeed. I forgot it simply changes the default action type. Just checked how it works for me - it shows a list of bookmarks (Select Bookmark dialog) right from Shortcuts.  Did you mean something else by "running" it?

I was hoping it would open the file that the first bookmark entry points to.

Since it doesn't seem possible start the audio file directly, I have changed the shortcut to this as the next best thing:

[shortcut]
type: browse
data: /Rehearsal/
name: Rehearsal
icon: -1
talkclip:

It opens the folder then another click starts the audio file. But the shortcut display looks like this:

Rehearsal/ (/Rehearsal/)

Why doesn't the shortcut screen look like this?

Rehearsal

And what's the difference with bookmark shortcut? First click opens bookmarks list next click starts playing it.

It doesn't save on the number of button presses. I was just wondering if the different display for file type (Rehearsal) vs. browse type (Rehearsal/ (/Rehearsal/)) was by design.

Also, it appears that no matter what I set for the name the display is always the same.

[shortcut]
type: browse
data: /Rehearsal/
name: foo
icon: -1
talkclip:

results in:

Rehearsal/ (/Rehearsal/)

Is it a bug?
