ipod classic 5th generation and 2013 vw jetta

So my daughter has a 2013 vw jetta and it has the 30pin connector wire in the glove box, when I plug in the ipod, it brings the ipod up in apple firmware instead of rockbox, not sure if rockbox is compatible with this type of usage. 

Has anyone tried it, and if so, how did you get it to work. 

Want to rehab another ipod for her to use, but i am not sure if i should use harddrive with rockbox, use adapter in place of the harddrive with rockbox, or just use apple firmware. 

Once again, thanks for any help you can provide.

You'll need the Apple firmware for that kind of car compatibility. You can still upgrade the iPod with iFlash/microSD, though.
