Can't get Rcokbox to install on my Ipod 6gen 80gb

Hi,

Like the subject says I can't install Rockbox, I'm using Ubuntu. I've skipped installing the boot-loader as its already installed. When I try ti install I get this error message "Download error: received HTTP error 0
Protocol "" is unknown"

It also wouldn't auto detect my device. I'm not sure if that offers any clues as to whats going on.

Can anyone help me solve this?

Autodetection checks for both an existing installation of Rockbox (which you currently have, so that won't succeed) and does various hardware checks (like looking for USB IDs) which, depending on your system setup, might require additional priviledges, so might not succeed. Running as root usually fixes that, if that's the issue. It also assumes that the player is mounted. Additionally, it checks for the filesystem of the player, so if your player isn't formatted as FAT32 it also won't accept it.

I only have the bootloader installed not Rockbox. I think i tried a few years ago and gave up  . I guess it has to be either running as root or the wrong filesystem. I don't really know how to run as root from the graphical interface though. Is there a command I can use in terminal to install instead?
Also how can I check its the right filesystem?

If you already have the bootloader you can simply download a rockbox build and extract it to your player.  The installer can do that too, but is primarily for installing the bootloader.

I disagree with that. Rockbox Utility does a lot of other things (you don't need to use), like installing Themes, Fonts, Game files, creating voice files, etc.

But anyway, if you have trouble using Rockbox Utility you can simply manually install, and if you already have the bootloader that's just extracting a zip file. The manual has more info on that.
