Wanted: Sansa Fuze
« on: April 27, 2023, 08:33:31 PM »
Anyone willing to part with their Sansa Fuze?  I may be willing to pay good money for it!

But I'm looking for a specific hardware variant: It has to have the RDA5802 FM chip.  From what I understand, only some v2 Fuzes have this chip instead of the SI4700 series.  You can check quickly using Rockbox:

1. In Rockbox, go to "System" -> "Debug (Keep Out!)" -> "FM Radio"
2. After "HW detected: yes" it will say "SI4700 regs:" or "RDA5802 regs:"

If you have one, reply here or send me a direct message.  I also have 2 Fuzes in fair shape that I would be willing to trade in addition to cash.  One black v1 and one blue v2, but they both have the SI4700 FM chip.

Hello, I just checked, but my Player has the SI4700 chip. May I ask, what the advantages of the RDA5802 chips are?

Thanks for checking!  The RDA5802 chip can be tuned to frequencies lower than 76 MHz.  According to the documentation I found, it can go as low as 50 MHz.

Exciting update: I did manage to find a Fuze with an RDA5802 FM chip!  However, I am still interested in more such devices.

An eBay seller finally responded to me, and their device had the chip I was looking for.  So once I get it, I'll be modifying Rockbox to make the extended FM frequencies available.  If I'm successful, I'll be searching for more devices for friends and for backup.
