Surfans F20 / HIFI WALKER H2 ---> MECHEN M30?
(1/1)

From the outside, it looks like the MECHEN M30 on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/MECHEN-Lossless-Resolution-Portable-Player%EF%BC%8CSupport/dp/B0B4NCSPNX/ has ports/controls in the same location as the Surfans F20 / HIFI Walker H2. Does anyone know if it uses the same hardware?
dconrad:
Someone else might have a better idea, but my guess would be no. The buttons are in different locations, and that would mean that it's a different circuit board design. So, who knows what's in there, but I highly doubt it's that similar. If it's on the X1000/hiby platform it could be a candidate for its own port though.

As dconrad has mentioned it's clearly a different PCB, so I did a little bit of digging, and based on the firmware file, it appears that the MECHEN M30 uses some sort of Actions Semiconductor SoC. It's clearly more capable than the ATJ2127/2157/2167 not-enough-ram-to-get-out-of-their-own-way shovelware series, but anything further is going to require taking one apart and finding documentation on the chips inside.
There are quite a few players using these more capable Actions parts, but meaningful docs on Actions SoCs has been pretty much unobtanium.

Hi,
I decided to contact Mechen from their website support form, basically asking for any documentation on the Mechen M30 player they can send.
I got a response with the following attachments.
The Actions SoCs seems to be for ATJ2167 you already mentioned, at least that's the PDF they sent: https://drive.google.com/file/d/17OtSFbmhIisK2Q8g-LbrjQ0nU1S2o1KE/view?usp=sharing
The other PDF is for X-Power AC10: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pCsRrGkGhR7v07WdLCKh9s2wE0cIPAEU/view?usp=sharing
Please let me know if you have any more questions about the documentation. The representative at Mechen seems to be quite responsive but not very technical. Please be as specific as possible if you want me to ask them for any more documentation.
Cheers!

Hello,
Mechen M30 seems actually simmilar, from outside at least, to Hifi Walker H9. I own one and tried to "update" the firmware to Mechen M30, since Hifi Walker does not provide any firmware updates. The player is still working, but I don't have any sound on the line out. Also the wheel stoped responding, on the positive side it remembers the file lists.
Does anyone have any ideea how I could revert to original firmware of Hifi Walker H9? or perhaps to install Rockbox? Thank you.
