I now realize what I actually own is a Sandisk Sansa e280v2 which is part of the e200v2 series. Although I acquired it under the name of '.. Fuze'.

The interesting fact which was that my device said it hat installed Firmware 03.01.11e, but the forum page you are linking above only provides firmware versions 1.x or 2.x which my device would not accept. So I searched for a firmware with version greater or equal to 03.01.11e and all I found was that 3.01.16a/e/f . Which was also accepted and installed nicely by my device when I copied it into the root folder.
Link to 3.1.16 firmware again: https://forums.sandisk.com/t/e200v2-03-01-16-firmware-download-instructions/1083

This firmware now works on my device and the patched version with Rockbox boot loader as well although the device has imprinted "model: e280v2" on the backside.
