I wish the Android port was in great shape
I would have it on every Android and not worry about hardware ...

is there anything close to Rockbox on Android?

I guess it depends on which subset of the vast Rockbox features is most important to you.  Personally, I mainly use the Smart Audiobook Player app for my usage of playing ripped recordings of music radio programmes with frequent Pause/Play'ing during my work as a multi-drop driver.
