Trying to install Rockbox on my Surfans F20, I select the file Hosted or Native?
« on: June 19, 2024, 09:10:03 PM »
Also, what's the difference?

My F20 came with Firmware v3.1, can I still install Rockbox on it?
I THINK I need to downgrade it to v2.7, right?

I'm trying to follow these instructions, Polarigel did here:
https://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=54570.0

Polarigel said:
"...the latest Rockbox development build for AIGO EROS Q/K (https://www.rockbox.org/daily.shtml)..."
BUT that link has 2 options to choose from for my MP3 player, and I can't figure out the difference between them or what I'm suppose to use.

Or is there a more up-to-date guide I should use instead?
Some posts I see talk about if they installed it native, they can't help them installing it.
Are they talking about the files I'm asking about or how they install Rockbox somehow? (some do with an exe file on there computer, and some don't it seams).

I haven't done anything to it yet.

Thanks in advance!

I suggest starting here:

And downgrading the official firmware to an older one is pretty much guaranteed to lead to problems -- notably including losing audio altogether.

Ok, thanks for that information.

I read that the output-line could be disabled if I do this, I plan to only use the headphone jack, so I don't care if that port gets disabled or not.

Is it worth it for me to try and install Rockbox for my Surfans F20, or is it not worth it?

Doing now, or MAYBE wait if they update for my version (v3.1)?

I only really plan to to install Rockbox to really just change the UI looks, so I can see icons (Play all/repeat/shuffle/etc) more clearer and don't plan to use the mixer or any of those fancy audio adjustment tools.

Yes I"m simple.
