Volume control while in menu - agptek rocker

I'm encountering two minor problems on my newly rockboxed agptek rocker.

1. I cannot adjust the volume while being on a screen other then the playback screen (ie in a menu).
2. The volume adjustment speed is very slow on rockbox (it works normal on the original firmware).

I haven't encountered any of these problems on my clip zip which sadly passed away (hence the agptek).
Is there something I can change about this? Especially 2. is a deal breaker for me.

You can make some shortcuts: volume -25 or volume -32 and access them from shortcuts menu or binding to some key in playback screen.
