Rockbox Ports are now being developed for various digital audio players!
Devices that will run Rockbox and all plugins reliably are going to be older devices due to the time it takes to port Rockbox. The dev team tend to do this in their spare time. Since the average lifespan for a device seems to be around 18 months, a stable Rockbox player will likely be discontinued by the manufacturer. Some ports, like the XDuoo X3ii and X20, are still available on Amazon and should run Rockbox well enough for daily use.Personally, I would check local buy & sell sites to see if someone in your area is selling a Clip Zip or iPod Classic. With some ingenuity both of these players can be updated (new battery, and in the case of the iPod Classic, replacing the HDD with flash storage) for years of use. Your own Clip Zip may just need to be reformatted, or have its original firmware re-flashed. I have had a couple Clip Zips over the years whose internal memory got corrupted, causing erratic behaviour.Luckily, Rockbox is designed well enough that you do not need the newest, best, fastest player to enjoy your music. The fact that it runs on devices that are 20 years old is simply amazing.

Seems like this question constantly comes up, because Sansa decided to give this thing much less memory but a similar-sounding name.

Maybe ROCKBOX can offer a "LITE" version of their firmware.
For example these MP3 players have small screens not suitable for witching videos, even though that is a included feature. If the video playback aspect can be removed (and other non used features like voice recorder, Book Reading software etc) then that would open up memory space for RB.
