Rockbox for Eleston X26 and/or Ruizu X26
« on: December 31, 2020, 03:05:21 PM »
Hi,

Bought an Eleston X26 mp3 player and it seems to be an OK player, similar to Sansa Clip Plus, the problem is the firmware is pretty poor especially comparing to Rockbox. The Eleston X26[1] seems to be the same as the Ruizu X26[2], just a different branding. Both can be bought on Ebay for about $30.

Any chance for Rockbox to be ported to either Eleston X26 or Ruizu X26?

Thanks

What SOC does it use?

How would I find this out? Disassembling the player is not an option for me at this time as it's what I use now after my Sansa Clip Plus died.

RUIZU Customer Service might answer that question perhaps? ruizuservice@hotmail.com

Here's the Ruizu X26 manual in case if someone is interested: https://www.manualslib.com/manual/1529822/Ruizu-X26.html#manual

Opening it up is the easiest way.  Maybe someone on google has already done it if you don't want to.

It's an Actions Semiconductor SoC.  I'd be pretty surprised if it's not an ATJ2127 (or one of its familial siblings) -- ie <512KB RAM and HW codecs.

(There's a reason all of these cheapo DAPs all look about the same and have equally crippled firmware; they're all basically clones of the reference design, with little more than the case and firmware logos changed)

I've searched but haven't found anything SoC related. Maybe later I'll try to open it up, my experience with opening a Sansa Clip doesn't fill me with excitement in this regard.

How much RAM does Rockbox normally need? Could something be removed (for example, games, tag-based browsing, etc) to reduce the memory requirement?

There seem to be plenty of cheap mp3 players on the market, all with pretty poor firmware, it'd be great if at least some of them supported Rockbox.

~1.5-2 MB to boot, plus a few hundred KB if you want to be able to run audio codecs.

Wouldn't work then. Sad.

Anyway, here's a link to Ruizu X02 disassembly, it uses ATJ2127. Ruizu X26 probably uses something similar I'd guess: https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/ruizu-x02-partial-disassembly-and-notes.7697/
