iPod, Rockbox, MediaMonkey

I've gotten rockbox up and running on a 60GB 5g ipod. The main reason I did this is because I'm broke and I couldn't upgrade to get the full mp3 converter (the license expired) so I converted all my stuff into .ogg files.

All the tagging works and everything, but the only way I can get it onto the iPod now is to open it as a disk and copy and paste all my stuff over. Now, my files are all in more or less immaculate condition and are all organized, but it's just kind of an inconvenience. The only way to be sure I'm transferring all the tag changes I've made in MediaMonkey over to the iPod is to paste in the entire library which takes a lot longer than simply replacing the minor changes I've made.

Now, I've turned off "Force iTunes Style Folders" because they're useless when using Rockbox, and I've specified the path for the files to be synchronized to (G:\Music\<album artist>\<album>\<track#> <title>) but it simply doesn't transfer anything. I turned iTunes style folders back on, and it still doesn't work.

I assume this is because MediaMonkey believes, by default, that all iPods cannot play .ogg files. This makes sense, because the original Apple firmware does not support it, but Rockbox does.

I've looked through the "Properties" of the iPod through MediaMonkey, but I can find no setting to change that would allow .ogg files to be synchronized. Also, I'm almost sure that this is the issue because mp3's and m4a's synchronize properly.

If anyone could tell me how to fix this minor issue, it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't use Media Monkey so I can't answer your specific question, but can't you just use Windows' search function to find all of the .ogg files modified after a certain date and copy over only those?

Nevermind. I found out you can just configure it to act as a USB mass storage device instead of an actual iPod. This seem to work just fine.

Yeah, (one of) the joy(s) of Rockbox is you don't have to use junk like iTunes, Mediamonkey, and Musicmatch to organize your library.

that is the only reason i didnt want an ipod before rockbox

dh1134 - how did you configure MM so it sees your Ipod as a removable device?

I have been wanting to do this for a while now.

I use MediaMonkey myself, but sync using iTunes-style folders so I can go back-and-forth between the Apple firmware and Rockbox (using Tagcache).

U should find all ur files by locating ur ipod hardrive under my pc or my computer three in the left.
