How many songs can Rockbox handle
« on: July 16, 2006, 03:52:04 PM »
I have a iHP140.
The iRiver software can handle only 9.999 songs.
Support Rockbox more than 10.000 songs?

yes.

There is a configurable limit of numbers in a single folder with an upper limit of 10000, but this applies only to the number in a single list (i.e. a directory or a view when using tagcache).

Yes.

iRiver firmware = 9,999 for the whole device.
ROCKbox = 10,000 per folder.

Of course, that’s just my opinion. I could be wrong.

Now, THAT's clear;)

Why is it that iRiver has a limit of 9.999 songs?

That's something you should ask them, but I believe it has to do with lazy coding on their part. They index all the files on the player, and I guess they have hardcoded the size of their file database.

Maybe they never thought users would exceed that. I know I can't with my big & long files that are 320 kbps. I reached 3000, but not much more than that. And this is on the 40-GB model.

7,500 songs currently on a former iHP-140, now iHP-160, recorded at a 192 kbps variable bitrate.

c 11,500 tracks on a H140 upgraded to a 60gb drive.  Most recorded at ogg q4.5.   :)

I've only got about 2gb free, and I've just discovered newsgroups.  :(

oh my gosh, gb, you're me in 1-2 years.  and I just got done upgrading to the 60 gb drive.

;)

I just keep on hoping that new 80 gb players will be coming out soon.  who knows--maybe iRiver will even wake up (not ...).

It's the drives we want. 80 GB should've been out a while ago. I wonder what the hold-up is at Toshiba.

Believe it or not, there is an environmental issue with the drives and what they're made of, and European Union restrictions.

Having said that, my suspicious belief is that the supply is being reserved for a new DAP for the Fall/Winter; it just feel right ...

I bet they're being held-up for the next money-maker DAP, like a new iPod. :-(
