Playback pauses every three seconds

I just bought this iriver H105GB unit and installed Rockbox. I have an H10 20GB and have had no problems whatsoever with it.
After installing Rockbox I moved some MP3 files to it, found them in the files and played them.
On playback, each 3 seconds, the playback pauses for a little over 1 second.
Not a good thing.
Granted, I'm no expert on Rockbox but the files play back normally using the iriver software but that doesn't have anywhere near the functionality of the Rockbox app.
I'm thinking of uninstalling and trying a new install. I see there is an older version and a newer version of the software. Is one better? I used the newer date for this installation.
