Eros Q Native 11/24/2024.  I'm getting just a white screen on the Hifi Walker H2.  I went back to 11/20/2024 and everything is back to normal.

First, please try the 20241122 daily to make sure this is due to the hw4 enablement work.

Second, we need to know what hardware version you're using.  This can be inferred from the firmware version the device was shipped with.  It's also reported in the debug info/device data menu, under 'lcd version'.  Or both, preferably.

Meanwihle, the person responsible for that native port is out of reach for about a week.  So nothing is likely to happen on this until then.

255.  I believe the device came with 1.5 beta which I changed to just 1.5.  I'll check the other daily build when I get home.

Ok.. so the bootdata is invalid; this means you have an old bootloader.

You will need to Install the latest bootloader; see the isntructions on the wiki page under 'native port installation' -- https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/AIGOErosQK

Ah!  Updated the bootloader and the new nightly works.

Was this to achieve a higher resolution?  The display seems clearer.

Thank you.

Big thanks for these last couple of changes, my v1.8 device has the LCD inverted problem now fixed and device seems more stable (previously had some kernel? panics randomly when opening files...no more).

Native Port users:

I haven't updated this thread in a while, so I should probably do so - there's some churn in the codebase going on at the moment with these devices that may require updating bootloaders. This is to hopefully get these devices to a genuine "Stable" state.

Hardware 4 devices are now supported on native, please see the wiki page for the bootloader update file and grab the latest daily build. https://www.rockbox.org/wiki/AIGOErosQK#Native_Port

Due to some changes needed to support hardware 4, early players (hw1, hw2) may need an updated bootloader if the current one was installed before hw3 was introduced. If you update rockbox and get just a white screen at boot, you'll need to do so. You can boot into the bootloader's menu with (Pwr + VolUp), go into USB mode and put the correct update.upt file on the card, and then run the Aigo Recovery system and the new build should now work. If the "Aigo Recovery" option is not present, you can use jztool to install the newer bootloader, and from that point on you can use the "update files" method to update the bootloader if ever needed.

We're reworking the hw1/hw2 bootloaders slightly in preparation to hopefully get this player to a genuine "Stable", so please keep an eye on this patchset: https://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/c/rockbox/+/6132. When it gets merged, the check for the newer DAC with hardware volume scaling will be moved to the bootloader. I believe this should only really affect hw2 units - when this gets merged, hw2 units may fall back to using software volume until they get their bootloader updated.

Also please keep an eye on this patchset: https://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/c/rockbox/+/6133. It will allow you to manually select headphone or line output. The default is the current operation, automatic detection. Jack detection for automatic play/pause on plug and unplug will not work if the output is manually selected.

Also, if we ever get a new rbutil release, the native port will become the default for these players. The hosted port will still be there, you'll just need to go into the settings and enable "disabled" players. I think it will be rbutil version 1.5.2.

Not sure if anybody's mentioned this yet, but I recently managed to install the native port on a Hifi Walker H2 v2.0 using the hw4 bootloader. Seems like nothing important's changed since v1.9.

I've also emailed the manufacturer asking for an upgrade package. Will report back if they get back to me.

Thanks for confirming. Did you use the stock updater or jztool?

jztool on Windows--I wanted to be able to backup the bootloader. I've uploaded it here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1-ZyYtFbT0AsYWZwX3iOqCd7lBAAy7g-F?usp=sharing

I just received the reply from Hifi Walker. They say that there is "no update package for the time being" and that "Older versions of the player cannot be upgraded to 2.0"

If we can't get an image from hifiwalker, you could re-install your backup and then do a whole dump of the player's flash, that's better to have than nothing.

Any chance you'd be willing to try the stock updater method? I'm just trying to figure out if it will accept the same update image as the surfans units. It will either work and re-install the exact same bootloader you already have, or it will reject it because it has the wrong device name string (erosq_2024).

Thanks for the backup image too, I grabbed it and saved it locally just in case since we don't have the hifiwalker update image yet.

Done, I've uploaded it to the same folder as the bootloader. It should be as stock as possible since I hit factory reset before taking the dump. I did not reboot after restoring the bootloader and before taking the dump though. Please let me know if that will cause any issues.

Just tried it (after restoring the stock bootloader) with erosqnative-hw4-erosq_2024.upt, looks like it works completely fine. Update shows success and then it immediately boots into Rockbox.

Excellent, thanks on both counts! The flash dump should be ok, it sure looks like it. The restore function works immediately so as far as I can tell it's correct.

Hi, I'm just now getting into rockbox. I have a Hifi Walker H2 v1.9 -- from what I'm reading and finding, does this mean I can follow instructions for Surfans F20 v3.4 since both run on hw4? If I have to use the google drive that's linked, what are some search terms I can look up to correctly get this running on my walker?

Thanks!

Yes, as far as we know Hifiwalker H2 v1.9 is a hardware 4 device, just like Surfans F20 v3.4. You can follow the "update files" installation instructions from the wiki to do the installation. Everything you need should be described there - format the SD card, then put the update file and rockbox installation on the card and run the updater on the device.

Another update on the native port - the newest builds as of this morning (and will be in tonight's daily builds) have the changes I wrote about earlier.

We got both of these merged:

https://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/c/rockbox/+/6133, which adds a new setting under Sound Settings --> Output Select, to select either Automatic (default), Headphone, or Line outputs. Details are in the manual.

https://gerrit.rockbox.org/r/c/rockbox/+/6132, which cleans up device hardware revision reporting in the debug menu. The new bootloaders are up on the download site now - I recommend everybody to update their bootloaders. Using the newest builds shouldn't break anything with old bootloaders though (excepting /very/ old bootloaders on hw1/hw2 devices, which are already broken - please update those devices!).

I have this program that downloads audiobooks.  Rockbox would always play them.  Now, I get this.  I've never seen this before.  It will play a few seconds, then this.

The books are in a directory.  Within that directory are subdirectories for each book, and then mp3 files.

If I copy a file that's crashing into a different directory, it plays.  It's not the mp3 files.  It's the directory structure somehow.

I get this even with a fresh install.
