Won't BOOT up when turned on [SANSA CLIPZIP]
HERCULES1X:
I have a SANSA CLIP player and have had ROCKBOX on it some years now
All of a sudden recently in order to get the player to work, I have to keep turning it on and off some times ten to twenty times to get it to BOOT up to the screen allowing me to choose the music to play or to listen to the radio or record etc
Not sure if the ROCKBOX software has corrupted or what, but want to know if the software can be re-installed without erasing everything I have on the player.
I can not get to the music now to save it on my computer so I can re-install or to reinstall the software
I can go through all of the on off methods until the unit eventually initializes (I hope) and wondered if the problems I am suffering is due to corrupted software..
Can anyone help?
Thanks

What happens when you plug it into a pc via usb?
HERCULES1X:
I get that very message at timeS, to PLUG USB CABLE
My computer "ding dongs" when its plugged in, I will get the ROCKBOX banner on the screen and at the screen bottom it says BOOT 4.0
Normally I would get the USB picture indicating its connected from the computer and recharging...
Now I get a message of USB CABLE or I get a LOADING ROCKBOX message that never loads.
If I can get the player to initialize after turning it off and on many times, then I will have to immediately plug the player into the USB port to recharge or transfer music or delete files etc and afterward it will work perfectly until it shuts off, then the trouble of getting it to initialize again repeats

Rockbox has two components the bootloader and the firmware.
The Rockbox bootloader.
The bootloader is the program that tells your player how to load and start other components of Rockbox and for providing the dual boot function. This is the component of Rockbox that is installed to the flash memory of your Sansa.
The Rockbox firmware.
Unlike the Sansa firmware, which runs entirely from flash memory, most of the Rockbox code is contained in a “build” that resides on your player’s drive. This makes it easy to update Rockbox. The build consists of a directory called .rockbox which contains all of the Rockbox files, and is located in the root of your player’s drive.
You can update the firmware without losing your music files. However, it could be the rockbox bootloader is corrupt.
Is the priority to backup the music files stored on the device?
If you can get the usb cable to computer to work back up your files.

Then you could try booting to the original firmware:
How do I start the original SanDisk firmware?
Shut the device down by holding power/menu. Then, press power/menu to boot the Sansa. Immediately after doing this, hold down the |<< (left) button.

HERCULES1X:
Worked perfectly for a little while...
Using the technique you suggested I was able to get to the start up screen and play the music, use the radio etc and said let me save my music and then upgrade ROCKBOX
Everything went fine it seemed after the upgrade, until the unit went off and I tried restarting it later and ended up right back where i started with the unit refusing to initialize.
This time pressing the power button and the left button right afterward would not take me back to the start up screen.
I attempted it multiple times being left with the screen just showing the ROCKBOX banner at the top and at the bottom of the screen a message saying BOOT 4.0
If I press and hold only the power button I get a screen saying
- LOADING FIRMWARE
- Length A4110
- Checksum4115C7
- Model Name clzp
- Loading Rockbox
The problem at this point is it does not do anything after this message... except after a good while it changes to PLUG USB CABLE
In one attempt to press power and then the left button I hit the left button first then power and I got a colorful screen with the SANSA logo and I could flip through various screens where i could make adjustments to setting from Equalizer to Brightness to Files Music etc... I can even get the files to play, but without the ROCKBOX benefit that makes the sound so much better.
I seem to be back to the original SANSA software that leave much to be desired ... I also can not get the Sansa unit to be recognized on my computer so I can access the files or the microSD card I have in it, or try and upgrade again
Any further help would be appreciated
