Does running as root matter on macos like on Linux? Could try that and see if it helps.

It looks like you have to be logged in as administrator or use 'launch as root'

Ok, let me try to recapture what you did without knowing what you did.

* You started Rockbox Utility
* Went to the configuration dialog. Pressed Autodetect, player was detected as an Ipod Video, pressed Ok.
* Enabled Bootloader and Rockbox in the main window. Pressed Install.
* A dialog box appears that shows the progress, and that shows the text "could not open Ipod: permission denied"
* Failed to spot the blue "Save Log" button in the bottom left corner of that dialog box, which would have saved all relevant information to a file and avoided people having to guess.
* Failed to find the menu bar and its "Help" item, which has a subitem "Troubleshoot" that holds "System Trace", which is what I did ask for.Is that correct?

Try the following: Press cmd-Space. Type Terminal, then press Enter. Type the following:

sudo /Volumes/RockboxUtility/RockboxUtility.app/Contents/MacOS/RockboxUtility

You'll end up with a password prompt in the terminal. Enter your password. Rockbox Utility will start. Try installing the bootloader again.

And repeating myself: You need to be as specific as possible for anyone to be able to help you. I'm not motivated to do guesswork, especially since I'm not getting paid for this.

i copied the command text into terminal and got this message.  sudo: /Volumes/RockboxUtility/RockboxUtility.app/Contents/MacOS/RockboxUtility: command not found
